Geronimo and the Gospel of Grit: Shane Smith & the Saints at ACL Live

May 23, 2025

Written by Clinton Camper

On a Tuesday night that felt anything but ordinary, Shane Smith & The Saints turned the PBR Team Draft into a Southern spectacle at ACL Live at The Moody Theater. Equal parts rodeo grit and Americana glory, the band delivered a high-octane, emotionally charged set that reminded everyone why they’re one of Texas’ most beloved live acts.

The night opened with the cinematic swell of “Geronimo,” immediately setting the tone for a show that was as much a spiritual experience as it was a concert. From the thunderous pulse of “Fire in the Sky” to the tender heartbreak of “Adeline,” Shane’s raw, soaring vocals never missed. Fiddle solos from Bennett Brown sliced through the room with wildfire precision, especially on the rollicking “Mountain Girl” and the hauntingly beautiful “The Greys Between.”

Covers were carefully chosen and soulfully executed—Levon Helm’s “Hurricane” roared with stormy emotion, while the band’s take on The Marshall Tucker Band’s “Can’t You See” earned one of the loudest singalongs of the night. Still, it was original tracks like “Hail Mary,” “Feather in the Wind,” and “All I See Is You” that anchored the performance with grit, grace, and an unmistakable Texas identity.

By the time they closed with “All I See Is You,” the crowd was locked in—singing, swaying, and savoring every note. It wasn’t just a concert; it was a reminder of why live music matters. Shane Smith & The Saints don’t just perform songs—they ignite something deeper. And on this night in Austin, they left it all on the stage.
